C.R.A.S.H. Curatorial Residency, Simone Yael
WAVE POOL Curatorial Resident Simone Yael's exhibition "C.R.A.S.H." explores and celebrates the work of Midwestern womxn of color.
An experiment of social architecture, film, photography, music, design, and performance, C.R.A.S.H. offers viewers a glimpse into the work of artists who currently live and work in the Midwest, a geographic region where many creators—especially Black womxn—have been historically taken advantage of and overlooked.
Featuring the work of Cincinnati-based textile and hair artist Dutana Dago from Minnesota; Chicago-based DJ and Producer Sky Jetta from Detroit; photographer & designer Trina Rager, a St. Louis native who now lives in Chicago; and artist/illustrator Dai Williams from Cincinnati.
The exhibition will be part playful programmatic exploration of ideas as well as a celebration of resilience—simultaneously transforming the gallery space and the streets surrounding it into an immersive world where community members of several Midwestern cities can unify as well as amplify these narratives and their reflective work.
Curatorial Resident Yael says of her show, "the hope for this exhibition is that some might go from indifference to observation; to rise to the call of a universal truth: that in us we all have the desire to be seen."
Participating artists include: Dutana Dago, Sky Jetta, Trina Rager, & Dai Williams
