“Old age is not a disease (…) it is strength and survivorship.” – Maggie Khun, founder of the Grey Panthers.
In May 2019 Wave Pool Artist in Residence Maggie Lawson tapped into the knowledge of Cincinnati’s elders to create intergenerational contemporary art. The project includes an installation and a series of public events addressing aging and agism. Lawson will explored what positive aging looks like within her own family and the broader Camp Washington community.
Lawson collaborated with the University of Cincinnati printmaking students to print 400 birthday cards that contain positive messages about aging, completing a series of video portraits of older people that are example of healthy aging, and creating an interactive birthday scene.
Lawson will celebrate the closing of the exhibition with a reception June 1st, 5-8pm. This will include a performance from 6-7pm with Cincinnati Artists and creatives Abby Schnure, Dani Clark, Mak Vail, Karen Fitzpatrick, Peggy and Jerry Lawson. And cake!
