Wave Pool is turning 5! In 5 years we have shown to Cincinnati and beyond the impact that artists can have when listening deeply and responding proactively to the issues and experiences of their neighbors. Tickets available at http://www.wavepoolgallery.org/high5fiesta
We hope you can join us for this important birthday at our first ever fundraising gala on September 21st, 2019 from 6-11pm at The Factory, a new event space in Northside. The event will feature tastes of Latin food via chefs from The Welcome Project, a variety of libations, live music, a silent art auction, a live auction of both objects and unique experiences, all MC’d by the amazing Morgan Rigaud!
Our vision is for experimental art to connect communities and create change. We believe we are achieving this vision every day; We see it every time a neighbor comes into the gallery with the confidence in which they would walk into their living room, each time a refugee puts their hands in wet clay for the first time and feels connected to the act of making at The Welcome Project, every instance in which a neighborhood kid engages with one of our artists in residence to envision and create a better world.
We’ve painted nails for women’s reproductive health, created flutes from guns, and created the ultimate LGBTQIA fringy bookstand, just to name a few. To top it off, we’ve paid over 200 artists a fair, living wage for hundreds of exhibitions, performances, and projects. We are W.A.G.E. (Working Artists for the Greater Economy) certified, meaning we make sure we are paying artists fairly. We are the only one in Ohio and one of only 71 organizations worldwide.
And we’re just getting started. We’re recognizing this anniversary as a moment to step back and celebrate what we’ve already achieved as well as look towards the future and what’s more to come.
Over the next year Wave Pool will open a food market and teaching kitchen for and by refugees and immigrants, host a world renowned artist group to do a soil remediation project in our post-industrial neighborhood, and continue to support artists and curators through our rigorous exhibitions and residency programs. This is all to further the development of our neighborhood and our city as the place that pairs communities’ needs with artists’ sense of possibility.
Thank you so much for your support. We know this will be an evening to remember. Please purchase tickets at http://www.wavepoolgallery.org/high5fiesta
