Wave Pool is hosting two exhibitions this fall that promote diversity, inclusion, and civic engagement. For this very special double opening, there will also be a special take-out style
Cincinnati’s Table event with artists and resources to get out the vote. This event is also the kick-off event for Welcoming Week, a national week of developing greater understanding and mutual support organized by Welcoming America. To keep everyone safe, most of the activities, food, and programs will be outdoors.
Featured Exhibitions:

The Journey and The Dream by Erika Nj Allen at Welcome
The gallery openings on September 12th are both from 12-8pm to allow for socially distant viewing, with reservations encouraged as only 5 people will be allowed in each space at a time.

The exhibition in the main gallery at Wave Pool is Outcry by Whitney Bradshaw. In response to the long history of the silencing of women and girls, Whitney Bradshaw makes portraits of women screaming. Through her Outcry series, she provides space for women to practice speaking up and out for themselves, to be heard, supported, encouraged, and celebrated.
Bradshaw initiated this social practice project the night of the Women’s March in 2018. Since then, she has photographed over 375 women. In her words, "I invite groups of women who don’t know one another to my studio for a gathering, effectively expanding our community while providing support for one another as we bravely let out feelings that have been silenced or dismissed in our culture. During each session, we talk about how our voices can save us and share self-defense strategies.” When seen together these intimate representations of individual power and expression become a monumental act of collective resistance. For this exhibition Wave Pool hosted ‘scream sessions’ where Bradshaw photographed local women for her project. These plus an additional 150+ images will be hung floor to ceiling in a grid along Wave Pool’s main gallery walls.
Artist and manager of The Welcome Project, Erika Nj Allen will also be exhibiting work in anexhibition at The Welcome Project entitled The Journey and The Dream. The exhibit is comprised of a series of photographs that show the human side of immigrants and refugees in search of equality, justice, and the American Dream. Allen visits the homes or workspaces of
Cincinnati-based immigrants and sits down with the families and gather their stories of arrival, survival and what they consider family and community mean in a place that is far away from their birth country. The basis of Allen’s body of work is to highlight the similarities between communities to create a kinder sense of belonging.
Both exhibitions will be on view from September 12th – November 14th, 2020. The opening for these two exhibitions is on September 12th from 12-8pm and will also coincide with a community take-out style dinner.
This dinner, part of the Cincinnati’s Table dinner series, will feature free tamales by Lety Sanchez and artwork by Public Service Artists and the House of Friends Cincinnati.
Voter registration and applications for mail in ballots will be available along with voter guides and information from Cincinnati Compass and Action Tank. Live music provided outside by the JD Allen Trio.
