Two years after opening The Welcome (M)Art with the help of an Impact 100 grant, Wave Pool, in partnership with the Camp Washington Urban Revitalization Corporation (CWURC) is launching a farmers market to bring regular food access to Camp Washington.
For many years, Camp Washington has been considered a food dessert due to the lack of food resources in our neighborhood. Many neighborhood organizations have stepped up, such as Welcome Project with their free meals, Washington Church of Christ with their food pantry and the Free Fridge, but this has not solved the issue of our residents not being able to purchase produce in the neighborhood. The Camp Washington Farmer’s Market is a temporary solution to a long term issue. In addition to adding a shopping option to the residents, we are also attracting start-up farmers due to the weekly commitment instead of the seasonal commitment. Our hope is to provide a gateway for new farmers to enter the market.
Every Thursday this summer and fall in Valley Park (3220 Colerain Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45225), farmers, bakers, crafters, and other vendors will be selling their goods from 4-6pm.
Wave Pool will host an art activity each week for kids and adults alike who’d like to flex their creativity and keep their hands busy while shopping.
