Unsure of the path that your art is leading you? Join us the first Saturday of the month to share your experiences as an artist. We start with a special activity, guest speaker, or discussion topic before diving into the queries of those in attendance.
For November’s Artist Support group, dive into the meditative flow of creating captivating, one-of-a-kind watercolor patterns on paper as you explore the gentle interplay between ink, water, and breath. While we provide the essential materials, we also encourage attendees to bring their own fabric, paper, or in-process pieces to infuse a personal touch into their creations.
In this suminagashi workshop, artist Christian Casas will guide you through the delicate art of 'floating ink,' fostering a deep connection with your own bodily sensations and the subtleties of the materials. As you observe the ink dance upon the water's surface and transfer onto your chosen canvases, you'll not only unlock the secrets of this enchanting art form but also unlock a unique avenue for somatic self-discovery, mindfulness, and relaxation. Join us in this transformative journey where suminagashi transcends its aesthetic beauty to become a gateway to inner calm and self-awareness.

Christian Casas b.1994 is a first-generation Cuban-American artist, curator, and educator from Hialeah, Florida. He creates gatherings of found objects, video, set and sound design, familial photographs, pyrography, printmaking, and painting to explore intergenerational memory, selfhood, and erasure within a diasporic experience. Through engaged acknowledgment, Casas evades romanticization of the human condition by calling upon viewers to reckon with complex intersections of intergenerational memory, selfhood, erasure, and time while (re)engaging with their own experiences in a global context of power and “otherness.”
Casas received an M.F.A. from Ohio State University (2022) and a B.A. from the University of Florida (2017). Casas has exhibited in regional and national galleries, universities, museums, and, most importantly, within the community.
