The alternative art fair where artists take over parking spaces in Camp Washington is entering its third year by moving to OTR to be part of something bigger.
9x18: The Parking Lot Art Experiment is an alternative/performative/experimental/live art fair taking over the parking lot at the corner of 12th and Jackson Streets in Over the Rhine on May 3rd, 2018 from 6-11pm. “9x18” describes the dimensions of a standard parking space, and that space constraint is the only rule to abide by for this fair. The typical tents, wire hangers, and plastic sleeves for goods sold will be absent from this fair. Instead, viewers will be inundated with performance, art actions, experimental engagements, and ephemeral works. 9x18 came about when a group of local creatives asked a simple question, “Where can artists who don’t create and sell easily commodified objects showcase their work to a large and accessible public?” 9x18 aims to answer this question and change the way we look at art fairs. Less about purchasing work (though there will be some opportunity for that), and more about creating an immersive experience. This year’s 9x18 is extra special because it is part of the AAC’s 150: Block Party. To celebrate its 150th anniversary, the Art Academy is throwing a block party. The Art Academy will be closing off the 1200 block of Jackson Street and inviting the public to party.
