"Melendez & Whittle: Composing and Collapsing"
"Melendez and Whittle: Composing and Collapsing" is a two-person exhibition opening November 13, 2021 at Wave Pool, which features collaborative artworks by multimedia performance/fashion artist/print designer Lindsey Whittle and sculptor/visual artist Chase Melendez.
These two artists employ the abstract and conceptually rich visual language of color and pattern to create an uprising of vivid and engaging installations within the gallery.
Melendez is active in the Cincinnati theater community, building and painting sets, with a wide variety of experience in film/video documentation and live event, concert productions. In his gallery-driven practice, the artist often builds inhabitable environments that play with line, angle and color—enticing the eye to consider space and how our bodies viscerally react to the consequential physical immersion.
Whittle is a multimedia action and craft-based artist, whose work as a designer and art experience facilitator and educator who uses collaboration and color as her primary mediums. Working in conversation with other artists of all stripes, Whittle's artworks have the potential and flexibility to function as installations, wall-mounted works, sculptures, as well as artifices for the body.
Together, the two have created a supportive and responsive series of site-specific works that provide a structural framework, upon which viewers can engage with and react to via creative experimentation.
This exhibition runs through December 18, 2021.
